The Lynching of Allen Brooks: What Happened in 1910 and What It Means for Dallas in 2022
March 3, 2022 @ 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM CST
$20On March 3, 1910, several thousand witnessed the midday lynching of Allen Brooks in downtown Dallas at the corner of Main and Akard, the present site of Pegasus Plaza. Thanks to an unprecedented program designed by Bryan Stevenson and the Equal Justice Initiative, based in Montgomery, AL, cities across America, including Dallas, are now being inspired to engage their citizens in dialogue on these episodes of terror and injustice. While acknowledgment and awareness will not achieve a timely justice for victims, they can pave a wider path toward healing through memorials and public recognition. Understanding difficult aspects of our past such as lynching is essential for not only Dallas, but all of America. This program will discuss why.
